Role Purpose
The Chief Executive Officer provides overall leadership, management and direction for BID Services, providing oversight of both strategic and operational requirements.
The CEO will ensure that strategy is translated into action, that priorities are delivered, service delivery is to a high standard, risks are managed, and impact is maximised, while developing and promoting the culture, performance and reputation of BID Services.
The CEO will ensure the organisation continues to meet the needs of people with sensory impairments by growing our impact, building our brand and ensuring our financial sustainability.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
- Provide visible leadership and strategic direction for BID Services, in partnership with the Chair and Board.
- Lead the development and implementation of the strategic plan, ensuring delivery of priorities.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team, working with that team to ensure effective operational running of the charity.
- Inspire, motivate and appraise the senior team and staff, fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing culture that delivers a great place to work for staff and volunteers.
- Champion equity, diversity and wellbeing across the organisation.
- Create and lead a sustainable and strong organisation where change is the norm and services and employees can swiftly and appropriately adapt to change.
- Role model and champion standards of performance and behaviour across the organisation which reflect BID Services’ core values and maximises our effectiveness.
Funding, Resources and Impact
- Take overall responsibility for the financial health of BID Services (circa £6m turnover), ensuring strong income and expenditure management and an operating surplus.
- Drive new business acquisition and the fundraising and income generation strategy, securing new business and funding from statutory funders, trusts and foundations, individuals and corporates.
- Develop and embed a sustainable and resilient funding model that supports growth and innovation.
- Pursue new business opportunities and partnerships to extend reach and impact.
- Ensure systems and processes are efficient, effective and fit for purpose, including the maintenance and development of appropriate targets, KPIs and reporting systems.
- Lead the development of a robust approach to impact measurement and evaluation, ensuring the operational delivery of the charity to fulfil commercial contracts and to ensure an excellent operational service is delivered.
- Ensure financial probity and that the charity’s assets are prudently and effectively managed.
Influence and Engagement
- Act as the primary ambassador for BID Services, representing the organisation locally and regionally, and developing the charity’s public profile.
- Advocate the mission and influence the national conversation on sensory impairment.
- Build relationships with policymakers, government, business and the wider social sector.
- Lead collaborations and partnerships with other organisations.
- Retain the views of service users and those affected by sensory impairments at the centre of the organisation’s work and vision.

Governance
- Advise and support the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities.
- Report regularly on progress against strategy and performance.
- To ensure that risk management is proactively addressed, both strategically and operationally, ensuring that risks and opportunities are identified in a timely manner and risk mitigated appropriately.
- Support the Chair in engaging and developing Trustees.
- Ensure compliance with all constitutional, legal and regulatory obligations.
- The responsible person for the Health and Safety of all individuals who work and volunteer in the organisation.
- The responsible person for the security and protection of personal data (clients, staff, other third parties) and the systems in which it is stored to ensure adherence to GDPR/Data Protection requirements and that cybersecurity risk is managed.
- Lead and work in accordance with BID’s Safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Be committed to the organisation’s environmental standards to minimise damage to the environment and work towards achieving good sustainable practices.
- Undertake any other duties as may be required within the scope of the post and participate as necessary in corporate initiatives and projects.

Knowledge and Experience
- Proven experience as both a strategic and operational leader in the not-for-profit, social or private sectors.
- Experience of building successful fundraising strategies and partnerships, with a track record of securing funding and income growth.
- Experience of shaping and delivering innovative organisational strategy, growth and change.
- Proven outstanding communicator.
- Skilled at partnership building, stakeholder engagement and evidence-based influencing.
- Knowledge of the Health and Social Care agenda and Charity Commission regulations/UK charity laws.
- Experience of operating at Board level, creating and applying a strong governance framework and working with trustees.
- Experience of working with those with disabilities and/or vulnerable adults including those with sensory impairment.
- Experience of leading, managing and motivating individuals and teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of EDI, safeguarding, health & safety and data protection/GDPR.

Additional Requirements
